Services for refugee claimants: BC Safe Haven

Last updated: September 10, 2025

If you are a refugee claimant, or if you do not have refugee status but want to seek asylum in Canada, it is important to understand the steps you need to take to file a refugee claim and get a hearing. BC Safe Haven can help. You can contact an organization that delivers the BC Safe Haven program.

BC Safe Haven has specialized supports to help you understand the refugee claim process, and help you with your immediate needs. Service providers that offer support have workers that speak English, French, and many other languages.

BC Safe Haven services include:
  • Information and introductions to other services providers
  • English language practice or classes
  • Connections to your local community
  • Help with finding a job or housing
  • Counselling that provides urgent support to help you through an emergency
  • Clinical counselling for those who have experienced trauma
Services are available in-person or online. Although services may differ between organizations, they often include one-on-one meetings, workshops and support groups, and peer support and mentoring.
